Day 1 here at Marstrand dawned on us with an early start and very little wind. We ended up floating around for most of the morning waiting for the breeze to build and settle down. Eventually we got underway in nice 5-10 knot s from the typical direction.
First up was a big one against Jesper Radich (DEN) who has two good mates of ours from New Zealand crewing for him. It was a very solid start for the team with a tidy prestart , slick crew work, and good placement around the track. This enabled us to extend throughout the race to win comfortably.
Race 2 started well against Keith Swinton (AUS). We heavily dominated most of the prestart only to let Keith off the hook in the last minute and gain the favoured left side of the track. We fought hard and did really well to close right back into Keith at the last top mark . We positioned ourselves really well to be able pass Keith on the final gybe only to get mixed up with another race. This stopped us being able to match Keith on the gybe to the finsh and we ended up losing on the line by a couple of meters.
This was a little disappointing as we were sailing well. However we are looking forward to tomorrow and plan on pushing on with the good vibe and locking in a good day tomorrow.
Big thanks to all our sponsors. FedEx, Tax Management NZ, KZ Race Furlers, Line 7, and Frontend. Also to all our Supportors, RNZYS, Devine Consultants, and PredictWind.
